Trademarks are useful for distinguishing goods and services provided by different traders, and are one of the important elements for building up brand names. With the help of wide publicity and frequent use of trademarks, they will eventually become the brand names for products and services, as well as sound foundations for the future development of products and services.
A registered trademark should have the symbol ® printed on it. The symbol ® indicates that that certain brand name has gone through the necessary registration process and has already been approved by the Trademark Office. Trademark, on the other hand, only represents the combination of the words, patterns or colours used for the building up of a certain brand name, but it does not necessarily mean that that certain brand name has already been registered.
The IP Rights of the trademark owners are only protected and confined to the country or region where it is registered or authorized, and it does not mean that such rights are also automatically granted to them in other countries or regions.
It is necessary to conduct a thorough trademark search before its registration to ensure that no identical or similar trademark has ever been registered or authorized by the Trademark Office of the same country or region before.
Under the trademark laws practised in most countries and regions, the validity for trademark registration usually lasts for 10 years, and such registration can also be renewed upon its expiry.

If a trademark owner need to make changes to information concerning his/her trademark, such as names and / or address or other registration details, he/she can apply for such changes to be made.
Trademark owners can apply for trademark reviews either if their application of trademark registrations have been turned down by related Trademark Offices, or if they are not satisfied with the reasons given for turning down their applications.
Objections can be launched by trademark owners under the following situations: 1. Objections can be launched by trademark owners if their applications have been turned down; 2. Objections can be launched by any interested party if the trademarks have just been published and have not yet completed their process of registration.
